The Fault in Our Stars (2014)
It is with a backdrop of scenic canals and parks that the protagonists of The Fault in Our Stars fall in love. The lead characters Augustus and Haxel, take a trip to Amsterdam together, after being diagnosed with fatal cancer. You get to see these particular locations on a lot of differently arranged Amsterdam tours.
This comedy movie was very successful in depicting the Dutch life, besides showing the most common themes of the Dutch attitude on prostitution and drugs, which are quite liberal. Most of the scenes set in Amsterdam were shot in Brouwersgracht, across a canal.
The Spy Who Duped Me (2018)
The most movie on this list, this one is all about the adventurous escapades of two women who run around Europe trying to escape the threat of one of the lead characters, who is actually a spy. One of the more memorable scenes was filmed in Nieuwmarkt, at a bench in the city center.
Ocean’s Twelve (2004)
Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, George Clooney, Catherine Zeta Jones, and other big names were in the city to film this blockbuster. In the movie, the protagonists plan an armed robbery in Amsterdam once Danny Ocean and his crew come out of a short retirement. The Nine Streets was the main filming location.
Diamonds are Forever (1971)
The James Bond series has been a personal favorite for thriller fans all across the globe. Furthermore, in the 1971 movie Diamonds are Forever, which saw Sean Connery returning back as 007, a diamond smuggler escapes to Amsterdam and Bond tracks him down there. One of those chase sequences was filmed on the popular Skinny Bridge, and over river Amstel.
The Hitman’s Bodyguard (2017)
In this action flick starring Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson, you see a few superbly choreographed chases and gunfights with the historic Rijksmuseum in the background. Jackson’s character is working to get his wife out of jail, Reynolds’ serves as his bodyguard.
